  • China may be a dictatorship, but they actually put tax money into public projects. When they say they are going to do a project for the next X years it actually gets done. As a result, when cool new projects come up, the infrastructure is already there. It is one of the reasons why Chinese EVs are so good and so cheap.

Meanwhile, we have the US where the government is wholly noncommittal to public services that don’t extract money from their citizens. They frequently break contracts and agreements when they are no longer profitable or beneficial to the upper class. We have private militaries kidnapping and killing legal citizens just for existing.

It’s no wonder people view the US less favorably than China. Both are evil, but at least China doesn’t behave like a petulant child.

  • These aren’t percents of a total - they are ratios relative to each other.

For simplicity let’s say teach bar has a Min of 0 and a Max of 100. NOTE that there are no units. Bar 1 is set to 100, bar 2 is set to 70, and bar 3 is set to 0. This is absolutely valid. What this means is “for every 100 units sent to 1, send 70 units to 2 and 0 units to 3”. In this case you can assign currency as the units. “For every dollar sent to 1, send 70 cents to 2 and 0 cents to 3”.

  • There is a very clear difference between a Centrist and somebody who does nothing. Steady progress is fine as long as progress is made.

Inaction means you are fine with the current situation. The people who do not stand up to the bully are no better than the bully, and the people who think otherwise are deluding themselves so they can feel better about not helping.

I’m getting particularly frustrated that commenters are taking a very clear statement and manipulating it to put words in my mouth in order to think they’ve made a point. I’m not blaming you specifically but you are the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I can’t fucking believe wanting politicians to actually make the world a better place would be so fucking controversial.

  • The problem as I see it is that you and the other posters here have fallen for the moving goalposts. “Shit is ok - at least it isn’t vomit.” That is such a poor and defeatist mentality to have. It isn’t a bad thing to want more. Don’t be OK with “the lesser of two evils”. Fight for at least one good candidate. Hold your party accountable for choosing awful candidates that don’t have the people’s best interests at heart.

I have voted for the lesser of two evils, and I will continue to do so. That won’t stop me from asking for better, and it will not change my mind that inaction in a bad situation is no better than doing bad things.

  • That is NOT true. Voting for a Democrat that does nothing is just as bad. Not only would they do nothing to reverse the damage, they have actively taken votes that would have been better used on a politician that actually cares.

A lot of people will blindly vote for the person with a D next to their name. The Democratic party is purposely not putting the best candidates forward. There needs to be more awareness of who the duds are and either vote them out or not vote them in.
