It wasn’t allowed in the US? Wow. Didn’t know that. In EU it’s available since about ten years. Current systems have high definition projectors with >1 million pixels which can display nearly everything on the street before you.

It’s actually not necessary the concentration power but the available time when being adult… 🤔

Reading 2 books wouldn’t be a huge problem today (if they are good and less then 1000 pages). But unfortunately the two toddlers here say no to me sitting a few hours on the couch and reading some book.

One big reason for my replacement last year was th camera. The X camera was nice back then… but now? No. Too much capabilities missing.

And of course 5G is quite ok. I like the dynamic island, 120 Hz screen, and some other features.

My old X ist still lying on the desk and works. But I retired it after 5 solid years of work.

Someone should create himself a reminder in 7 years to check if Google good this promise and still provides major OS updates for this Pixel.

Apple delivered 5 major iOS updates to the iPhone X + the whole iOS 16 lifecycle with probably some additional security updates in the next 1-2 years. Let’s see how many updates the new iPhone 15 (Pro) models will get. I expect not less.

I hate mAh… it’s absolutely no information how much energy is inside without taking the voltage into account. If you use directly (m)Wh, you directly have the amount of energy the battery can contain.

Had just 4 X-Buttons… could be worse. 🥸

That’s why I switched sides. From programming myself to developing functions and writing requirements which someone else can implement into code. :)

I could do some programming (did embedded C), but surely I wasn’t the very best in it. So now I’m the guy who defines what a small (but essential) part of SW has to do which will run in hopefully a few million cars in a couple of years. :) Much more fun (and money).

A lot of incredible science would be involved. And much much more money and a lot of time.

If we (humanity) could achieve that, that would be really cool.

But: how much solar-, wind- and battery-farms could we built with the same money and in much less time?

Fusion is great, but it will probably not be the solution of the energy demand we currently have. Nevertheless it’s something we should pursue furthermore. But we shouldn’t bet everything on it.

Probably because the need of moderation.

If you host an instance and let people in (even if it’s a limited circle, i.E. your students) you are responsible for moderation. I think that’s something institutions back off currently.

For an mail server that’s much easier.

The reliance on fossil fuel didn’t change a lot since shutdown of the last nuclear power plants. And basically… nuclear is also fossil. The fuel rods aren’t just there. They consist of materials which are mined. The difference is only that they are not emitting CO2. But instead the nuclear waste has to be stored for some thousand years. Germany already has a lot of tons of waste and still no place for final storage.

And as we could see last year in France, nuclear isn’t also that much reliable too.

The quitting of nuclear energy was still the right decision. The timing together with the Russian/Ukrainian war wasn’t the best, but unfortunate something like shutting down a nuclear plant ist something you can easily postpone when the plan is planned and startet to execute. Also a bad decision of previous german governments was to shut down nuclear plants and not building up a replacing renewable infrastructure. So in the end, there was no other choice for the current government to shut them down and rely on gas and coal a bit more than they wanted too.

And how much is still dark?
