If you don’t know about the Nutty Putty cave, it’s a cave system that has now been permanently closed after the horrible death of a caver who got stuck there. Look up details at your own peril. The name “Nutty Putty” is unrelated to the death and references the putty-like soft clay found in many of the passages, so you may cleanse yourself of any horrid mental images brought upon by speculation on the name.
Having read about it just now, the cause of death isn’t as bad as I thought it would. A tragedy still the last caver to have died in that cave.
I have definitely seen more horrifying deaths written about, anyway. I think it’s one of those things where reading a brief summary of it may not immediately evoke existential chills in those not already prone to cave-related phobias, but I wouldn’t want to watch a 15-minute video breakdown of the situation.
Indeed. I was just reading the Wikipedia article on it. it is very matter-of-fact, as Wikipedia should, IMO.
If I can find a good storyteller I’m sure I can get the existential dread dying in such a manner.

If he never had claustrophobia before, I wonder if he developed it during his last 24 hours alive, stuck in that cave. Poor guy now eternally entombed in cement. People might say “Rest In Peace” out of habit but I’d find it hard to rest in peace if I were him. My soul would be restlessly haunting that place forever in agony.
I feel the exact same way about manned excursions to the bottom of the ocean. Nope. Sorry but robots can do it just fine. Caves too.
And sure the hurdles for ocean exploration are easier than spelunking, but I still want none of it myself.

It’s a real shame we don’t have some sort of small devices that can go into the caves instead, like perhaps some sort of very long cable with a camera and light on the end
