wanted to make something like this for a while. so now since iām on a throughput train, i made it. horray.
* inspired note
- the visuals are heavily inspired by the style and abstractions used in rational animation videos. their king and the golem vid is fantastic

now itās too late, i did it, i posted this and you cannot stop me.
no thoughts, just post. made a related pres on the topic yesterday so iām in that headspace
i wish you a wonderful day where you are allowed to show nuance.
This rational animation channel seems to focus pretty non-stop on AI-risk crank talking points. Canāt tell by skimming if theyāre engaging critically, but it seems unlikely.
And now youāre apparently inspired to make a cutsiefied rendering of a slop machine running prompts, which is likened to a child being encouraged to explore.
I donāt wanna shit on the art or anything, but it seems like the general AI psyop is getting to you a little.
yeye i know what you mean. the channel does go through the topics critically, itās not a āohno blabla whatever out of controlā kinda thing. eengaging thumbnails and titles donāt mean sloppy scary stuff in this case. i believe in most of what they say because i see it happening myself in lil experiments i like running locally and because they really do present things⦠rationally. i think.
in the body content i mentioned that this kinda post idea h been sitting on me for a while and⦠now is just the time that i have the free slot of a ādaily postā so i made it. cuuuzz why not. i know lemmy hates anything ai, and i get it absolutely buuuut⦠whatever. peeps said āpost what you wantā and so iām doing that.
the cutsie / child-like action taking was inspired by rational animations btw, i just liked that bit and stole it.
i know lemmy hates anything ai
You do you maria, I canāt hate on you ever. Iāll just gently point out that distrusting generative AI is not a lemmy thing; itās representative of the general public. By now the main optimistic demographics on the subject are the āAI expertsā aka people whose careers depend on it.

ye I know, its a general onion by now. aaaand I have the same onion. the effects of this stuff are massively largely worse than the benefits. the idea of mathematical optimizers in general can be pretty useful in medical areas but generative thing muuuuch less so >v<
I donāt like how whenever i pop up with a not even all that pro-ai thing peeps assume im⦠some tech bro kinda person. im not aaaaaaa >o< im not selling a thing but am in the bubble and thus notice the progress being made and stuffs and what is corpo yap and whats actually a thing.,. even just reading papers.
I also watch and like that channel, it definitely has a bias and affinity, but IMO it is well researched and does a good job of explaining that perspective and the rationale behind it as opposed to just reciting talking points. I liked the most recent video about the threat of permanent dystopias, even though I donāt agree with some of the implicit assumptions itās making about the nature of the problem (Rationalist stuff leans neoliberal). Itās fun and probably important to think about the long term future of humanity in an analytical way, sci-fi style.
