Ok… where or how or who else am I suppose to seek answers from?

You’re not going to believe this: I was permanently banned from both these subreddits, r/SFXLibraries and r/AudioPost for “piracy efforts”! Where or how did I commit “piracy” in any of these reddit posts?! Only adding insult to injury; I got immediately muted from contacting both subreddit admins for 28 days! I didn’t even mention anything pirate-related like keygens or torrents. I just asked for help to locate these sound effect and music libraries.

So therefore, I need to ask somewhere else. But even those other sites aren’t fairing any better! - My Deviantart journal included.

I thought hard and I tried, and low and behold: they all deleted my question or block me because I “attempted illegal shares” or the question doesn’t really fit their forum site.

Obviously, when there’s a question, it needs answers!

Why don’t you give me advice where I can seek this answer, because I am running out of places to try. And so far, no luck on The VG Resource either.

Speaking of which, did they totally forget about iOS Jailbreaking, reverse engineering, and The VG Resource? These are ways to acquire things without getting into trouble.

Why do you think sites like The Models/Spriters/Sounds Resource exist? To help others acquire games’ decompiled assets - such as models, sprites (for things like a HUD or UI), OSTs/BGMs (Background Music or Original Sound Tracks) and, of course - sound effects. We’ve been putting OSTs and BGMs onto YouTube with almost no problems. So therefore, who should bother to care in this situation? This is no different than turning off the music in the game’s options menu and playing with just sound effects enabled. And you can cue that sound effect in the game as much as you want to your heart’s content.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret: Rayman for PS1, Toys VS Nightmares for PC flash, Jackie Chan Stuntmaster, and Crisis Beat all utilize some sound effect files from The Cartoon Trax 1. And right now, I’m trying to locate the source of Crisis Beat’s “anime-style” sound effects (the kind we heard in Alvin Earthworm’s Super Mario Bros Z). Thanks to this, I’m getting better at expanding my vocabulary knowledge in terms of sound effect names (E.G, the sound that cues when an object appears in Rayman is a cartoon xylophone and Rayman’s running sound is a cartoon horse galloping in Cartoon Trax 1.) Now I can better visualize how these sound effects got their names when they were first created.

So now I know where to begin my search for the sound effects from my past to today! But there’s a glitch: some of these albums don’t appear on Source Audio. I searched all over Source Audio (https://soundideas.sourceaudio.com/albums), but no luck. So I need help to acquire any discontinued or archived sound effect libraries like this if possible. Here’s the links to the Hollywood Edge and Sound Idea’s wiki pages to show the list of libraries they made; some of them don’t appear on Source Audio, so I need help finding an archive of some of their discontinued libraries somewhere: https://soundeffects.fandom.com/wiki/Sound_Ideas_Canada_Ltd. https://soundeffects.fandom.com/wiki/The_Hollywood_Edge

It’s imperative I get it in their original unedited sound file form and in MP3 as .wav is too big and .ogg could crash certain programs like Vegas Pro.

Here are the sound libraries I’ve been logging since I first began digging through my favorite TV shows, movies, cartoons, and video games that also don’t appear on Source Audio: DePatie, DFE, Disney, Elektra Records, Famous Studios, FOX, Star Trek: Original TV Series, Joel Valentine, Hacienda, Hanna Barbera, Horta, Horta Hacienda, Alex Fresno, BBC, Bob Clampett, Harry Bluestone, Nickelodeon, Nelvana, New Warner Bros, NTWK, OMI, Pro Sound Effects, PSEL, Rocky and Bullwinkle, 20th Century Fox, Audio Effects Co., Rich Harrison, Mark Mangini, Richard L. Anderson, Skywalker, Warner Bros, Turner Entertainment, Unknown Sound Effects Library, and Valentino.

Please help find the libraries in the above paragraph if you can. And also, I need the SFX libraries used by Alvin Earthworm in his Super Mario Bros Z series (machine gun, chaos emerald glows, Koopa Bros power up with the chaos emerald for their special formation attack, dashing, explosions, punches, kicks, land/fall/hit on a hard surface, death ray, rocket blast offs, special attacks, Koopa Bros thumbs up, Axem Black and Green join to make a axe attack etc.).

Remember the Skywalker sound library I listed? I have yet to find the library for online download.

https://soundeffects.fandom.com/wiki/Sound_Ideas,_Machine_Gun_Multiple_-_Long_Long_take_of_multiple_machine_guns_firing_at_once And sound effects like this are from a now discontinued library. I couldn’t find it on Source Audio. BTW, this sound file is heard in Total Recall (Arnold Schwarzenegger) where Richter’s goons open fire in the escalator scene.

And these sound effects are heard and used literally everywhere (cartoons, movies, TV, and especially video games). Therefore, no one should bother to care who’s using them, should they? Looking for one law breaker who’s using something very commonly heard is like looking for a needle hidden in a haystack. So I’m certain the head of the copyrighted material wouldn’t waste their time and money hunting down one individual with the “illegally” acquired item - let alone millions of them on this planet. Alot of people have used them for their “crappy” stop motion films and they never had problems.

P.S, Someone got a copyright strike for their “WoW forest ambience OST” video, and it’s from Hollywood Edge Sound Effects Library. But note: it happened somewhere in 2020 and Hollywood Edge went bankrupt in 2014. Therefore, they as a company shouldn’t exist anymore. That should make you understand how terrible of a copyright control system YouTube has. When it comes to the cyber world, it’s easy to fake lots of things.

    This rant is amusing.

Okay. OP… you’re being told it’s piracy, because unless it was officially released under some version of open license… obtaining defunct libraries, or software or anything else… is piracy.

Also, that’s kind of your answer there. There are piracy subreddits (as well as communities on lemmy,) and they’ll will almost certainly not ban you for… piracy.

This rant has been posted before. I’ve seen it multiple times and I’m pretty sure they’ve posted on the piracy communities as well. They seem adamant on getting these files.

Edit: I just checked and it seems this is either a different user or an alternate account, because those previous posts aren’t on this profile.

I always hate it when somebody asks for help on a site like StackOverflow, and some smartass pipes up with “Why are you even trying that, why don’t you try ___ instead?”

I don’t want to be that guy. But I am very, very curious about why it is so imperative that you obtain the actual original audio files. Why would similar sounds not suffice?

For context, I am an audio editor / producer / sound designer / Foley artist, and I’ve run into that same problem, of old sound libraries not existing anymore, and have had to find, or create, my own alternatives. So I do know the struggle, but I don’t know your particular situation.

    Crosspost this to !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com

Seeing as you’ve had issues obtaining the media through the legitimate means, it’s probably time to sail the open seas 🏴‍☠️

If you can find the existence of it on Wayback machine somehow, that would be a great start, we could then have a filename to drop into the various P2P DHT search engines to get you what you’re after.

This post is a bit off topic for this community though - a moderator may remove it, just so you’re aware

    Edit: fix c/ link

I think you may be wanting !datahoarder@lemmy.ml , groups like that are about preservation more than piracy and could probably give you tips. But remember, they’re not your personal army, they won’t do it for you - but they would probably have ideas.
