It must be because not everyone follows him around like us on reddit/Lemmy. I think this sort of thing is not reported in mainstream news. So the average person is barely aware of who Elon Musk even is.
Ego dream marketing. Same as any people buying SUVs after seeing an advertisement with a handsome business man in a suite with a big watch driving across the Alpes.
But then they’re taking off from a traffic light in the Chicago suburbs which at least straightens out the somewhat rough idle that the check engine tape didn’t really fix and the glovebox falls open for the third time that day due to another pothole. Turns out the 20" wheels from the spirit package were wasted money on top of wasted money.
