In particular, the bill champions a therapy called NaProTechnology, short for ‘‘Natural Procreative Technology,’’ a Catholic alternative to IVF that the bill defines as “an approach to health care that monitors and maintains a woman’s reproductive and gynecological health, including laparoscopic gynecologic surgery to reconstruct the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and other organ structures to eliminate endometriosis and other reproductive health conditions.”

God I hope they at least ask the women first.

I also find it hilarious that Lankford from Oklahoma co-signed the bill because the cost of healthcare is too high. The motherfucker wouldn’t donate a tissue to you if you had a cold.

The bill says that “most male and female infertility” can be treated with medication, surgery, or simply by figuring out the optimal time for intercourse in a woman’s cycle.

This sentence alone should tell you all you need to know: This bill was written by a whole bunch of old, white people who have no clue what the hell they’re talking about but want to push their religious views onto others.

Their whole argument is just basically a really long-winded way of rehashing the same nonsense they’ve been saying for years: “Use the rhythm method.”

Yep, I saw that line and have zero patience for these people. I have a birth defect that made it impossible for my wife and I to naturally conceive. In our case IVF was the ONLY viable treatment option.

We were lucky enough to be successful and we’re presently sitting at the hospital waiting for the birth of our first child. We plan to have another from our remaining frozen embryos. Our timetable may be moved up though by the threat of a bunch of morons trying to legislate our health and ability to have the family we want.

Please introduce me to the woman who is doing IVF without first learning about cycle tracking and timed intercourse.

The idea that someone undergoing IVF has not yet tried everything else first is extremely bizarre. It’s wildly expensive and extremely hard on your physical and mental health.

This makes me want to go back on Reddit just to see what r/infertility and r/IVF have to say.

(I say this as I am currently prepping for my 5th freeze-all IVF cycle to make embryos I can’t even put in my own uterus because a doctor did a thing that left me infertile following a miscarriage years ago. Nobody wants to go through this shit. We do it because it’s the next least-worst thing on the list of things to try.)
