I can barely take care of my self! Everything’s fucked! Don’t expect me to parent when I can’t even adult.

Man that’s crazy, people who got massive financial burdens just for going to school and have to suffer historically high housing prices alongside historically high interest rates don’t have the capacity for another massive financial burden, what ever could be causing this.

Sometimes I wonder how many parents of bad kids once looked at other bad kids and thought ‘theres no way my kid would ever come out like that’ because my guess is a looooot.

We can’t even afford to take care of ourselves and we’re going through increasingly volatile climate change so we don’t want to bring children into the world so they have to suffer through it?

Won’t someone think of the unborn labor force that’ll be forced to provide uncompensated infinite growth‽

Civilization creeping in? Less tribalists? That sounds too optimistic. I’ll go with global regression to the mean.

Two factors that are seldom mentioned:

    1. Modern people make worse parents in many respects. They might be more caring, when they actually have children, but they have less time for children, and are more distracted by other aspects of life. And overall, the general perception is that their commitment to family is much looser than in times past.

    2. Standards are simply much higher than they used to be. People don’t want to have children with whomever, and they want their children to be successful compared to their peers and that’s not easy to achieve and failing that, they’d rather not have any at all.
