Republicans hold onto most of the competitive seats in Georgia Legislature

Republican state lawmakers retained almost every seat in highly competitive races across the state, according to unofficial results from the Georgia secretary of state.

Georgia’s General Assembly should see only a slight change in its makeup when the next session opens in January. While the outcomes from Tuesday’s election have yet to be finalized, Democrats stand to gain two seats in the state House, leaving the Republicans with a 100-80 advantage in the chamber. Republicans are also expected to maintain the 33-23 edge they hold in the state Senate. BOB ANDRES/BANDRES@AJC.COM
