Jimmy Carter as president: Iran crisis, economy overshadowed Camp David accords

Jimmy Carter rose from governor of Georgia to the White House in two years, promising a government as honest as the people. Successes, including the Camp David Accords bringing peace between Israel and Egypt, preservation of massive swaths of new national parks and expanding human rights. The country was also plagued by by high unemployment, rising gas prices and the Iran hostage crisis during his final year as president.
