Ah yes, capitalism, the best contraceptive since 1492.
I love how they blame korean culture while also mentioning other developed countries with similar issues, without ever questioning the role of the profit motive or the fact that south korea is basically a plutocracy.
Funny thing is; so long as you don’t say ‘Capitalism’ or use recognizable Communist rhetoric and just describe that it’s Capitalism then they’ll nod along in agreement.
Say it’s “malevolent resource management” that shows a grand disregard for the people in such a way that it’s obvious to them, even if they wouldn’t put their finger to it, and they’ll agree. Just getting them to connect the dots afterword that how we manage resources is capitalism and it is actively opposed to their wellbeing is the hard part.
Well, now ain’t it just plain as day that capitalism in this modern world ain’t doin’ folks no favors when it comes to birth rates? It downright builds a society that’s hostile to the very things that make babies happen. Just look at how birth rates plummeted in the post-Soviet states after the USSR fell.
The only time capitalism ever made havin’ youngins worth a damn was back when folks was workin’ the land by the dozens, before tractors came along, or when you could send a child down a mineshaft to squeeze into some death trap of a machine. South Korea’s just the worst-case scenario playin’ out in real time.
