Explanation: In the pre-modern, early modern, and industrial era of Western civilization (ie just about everything before WW2), it was extremely common to blame social unrest or natural disasters on the Jews or the Christian God punishing Christians for allowing the Jews to [checks notes]… exist.
Luckily, when the Jews weren’t available as a scapegoat, for one reason or another, the gays were always an alternative target! Such as by the great and celebrated preacher John Chrysostom, who considered homosexuality worse than murder, and linked sexual immorality of cities with earthquakes which killed hundreds of people!

Religion is so nice!
In France there is a group of people called the Cagots. Which were a persecuted minority group. Basically untouchables. They were hated for centuries that people even forgot why they hated them and just hated them because that’s what everyone else did. The discrimination even persisted until the first half of the 20th century. The weird thing is the Cagots didn’t look any different from the other French and their cultural identity was basically the same as the other groups in the regions they lived. If it isn’t the Jews or the gays it’s just anyone else for reasons unknown.
Usually people blame the British for everything
If the British hadn’t sucked so much during the Revolutionary War (or at least the war of 1812), we wouldn’t be dealing with fascism in America right now. Just sayin’. 🤷♂️
