It’s a sad day to be a Capitals fan. This has been on the cards for a good few years now, and whilst it’s obviously bad news for Caps fans to hear, I’m glad he’s taking steps to make the right decision for him and his family.

Doubt we see a ‘I’m retiring’ announcement any time soon, what with Cap stuff, but I think this is all she wrote for Nicky’s time on the ice…but what a time it was. He’s going to go down in DC history as one of the best athletes to ever represent the city. He’s the franchise leader in assists and sits second in points behind Ovie. He’s fourth in goals. I’m not certain on this but I imagine he’s top 2 in games also.

He never really got the plaudits he deserved, especially during the first 10 years of his career when he was a arguably one of the best centers in the league. The last few years have been a bit rough, but injuries and age are always going to be a factor, but what a career. And he lifted a cup too.

    Thanks for the memories Nicky.

Yeah, he’s only the second player to pass 1000 with us.

I won’t be surprised if he ends up in our front office. In the past he’s expressed interest in going that route post-retirement.
