“They don’t play for something important, yeah. They don’t want to play under pressure, they don’t want to play under stress. It is easy in this way. Tottenham’s story is this.”

They are the proverbial “Middle Child”. They are one of the best supported and wealthiest teams in the country, so are considered one of the Big Six, but they haven’t won anything in years.

So, they are hit down from fans of the other Big 6 fans as they are just good enough and large enough to pose a threat but they haven’t won anything in years. Whilst, fans of teams not in the Big 6 hate the perceived bias that they get from refs and the media because they are part of the Big Six AND despite the perceived bias they haven’t won anything in years.

They mostly get hate from other London clubs - with Arsenal it’s due to the Gooners originally coming from Woolwich and turning up next door, while getting promoted when they didn’t deserve it a VERY long time ago.

With West Ham and Chelsea, it’s because Spurs have Jewish connections and it stems back to them having antisemitic fans in the 1970s.

With other c clubs it’s not really hate, just banter and mockery.

The fans are tedious. They whinge all the time. Their biggest complaint is how unlucky they are and they act as if being top four and six regularly is unfair - I guess because they didn’t win the league again? - when most teams never come close to that.

And they have so many fans. They are one of the biggest teams in the world but like to pretend that they are one of the smaller clubs.

I don’t think you can blame the fans with Tottenham, they are okay compared to Arsenal United Liverpool really. Its more just banter rather than hate and Spurs as a club just manage to fumble their way into more hilarious things consistently for other fans to take the piss out of them for.

They’re an internationally recognized team, absolutely - but not one of the 15-20 biggest fanbases worldwide. Some great support in Korea, but Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, City, Liverpool all with much bigger international fanbases. Obviously they have a leg up on “the other 14” though, but they do tend to be one of the smallest big clubs, which I’m sure plays a role in the mentality of detractors and supporters alike.

Apart from the north London rivalry, I think other teams find it funny that spurs are considered a big 6 club after no material success… nice stadium but they paid for that

I dont think spurs are hated at Man United level.

Man Utd during Fergusons era was the most hated club ever. I doubt any club could reach that level of hate again. Even the “catchphrase” makes it unbearable like “Not arrogant just better” like fuck off mate.

Best answer I can give is it’s funny and they’re an easy target.

They’re part of the “Big Six”, but just can’t win a trophy making them a bit of an outsider to the other members of the 6, but also getting that same disdain from the “Other 14” clubs.

They are in that perfect range of good but not good enough to always be the perfect target to make jokes about

I think people find them amusing more than hate them. When someone bottles something we call it ‘spursy’. They are a joke but I wouldn’t say hated.

I always thought it’s because they’re the Newcastle of the south.

Deluded fans and a trophy cabinet filled with spam.

Personally I’ve never had a big issue with either. They are both like a real life FM save. And it’s so much fun to keep an eye on.

They’re the club that over celebrates when they beat you, but if you beat them they claim it was expected and they admit they’re shit. But they are well up for it before the game… Evvvvery time.

However (what I’m about to say is blasphemy), as an arsenal fan since a young child… I’ve really enjoyed Ange’s interviews and watching Maddison and Son this season. Udogie has also been entertaining to watch.

Obviously I don’t wish them success, let’s be real. I suppose some Spurs fans would have respected Henry/Bergkamp era and genuinely enjoyed some of their play.

Sorry for any upset I’ve caused 😭

They’re an underdog in your local rivalry, of course they’re motivated! Of course they celebrate it.

Not too dissimilar to your lot finally beating us this season…

        Assuming you’re a city fan?

I went into that game hoping we performed. I can’t say I expected us to win and I wouldn’t have claimed to be the favs.

Spurs fans I’ve known always fancy themselves to beat us, and when they don’t it’s all forgotten. When they do the banter is dragged on and on 😵

My attitude to the footy this season has completely changed anyway. Enjoying the Rugby world cup and how VAR is used has meant I don’t take it as seriously.

I just want to watch a good fair game with commitment from both teams. Of course I want Arsenal to win but if they play well and lose, it doesn’t ruin my weekend anymore.

Unless that’s just growing older 🤷

          Aye, good guess.

Honestly, it’s not too dissimilar to our own local rivalry though. For years we were the underdog, and you’re left with two choices - be buoyed by shallow hope for a little bit before your crushing disappointment, or cede to your inferiority before the match and still face the crushing disappointment- of which you’re well accustomed to shrugging off.

They’ve had less to celebrate than you historically, so it’s perfectly natural that it means more. It doesn’t mean they’re inferior.

Unless that’s just growing older 🤷

          Yep 😀
