I was thinking about this for awhile, and was wondering if anyone else felt that people are hesitant to award Premier League players with the credit they deserve?

Eg. Am I crazy or was Haaland not winning the Ballon D’or really disrespectful towards the Premier League?

He set the goals record, and won the treble.

You Look over the list of winners and in the premier league era only Michael Owen and Ronaldo have ever won it while playing for a premier league team.

How did Henry not win it in 2003?

I feel like now that he is dominating a much poorer league Harry Kane is finally getting the respect he deserves.

Jude Bellingham is getting bonus credit for doing it for Real Madrid.

Nah, Premier League is overrated, if it was as good as it made out, why do English clubs not do better in Europe on the regular?

Before you downvote, I am a fan of a Premier League club

To be honest, I think it’s because Messi and Ronaldo have just drastically overshadowed the global footballing stage for so long. It’s also important to note that the quality of a league does not dictate quality of players. For example the prem is inarguably the most competitive league, but the best players in the world don’t dream of playing for City, instead they want to play for Madrid.

The ballon d’or is no longer what it was in the golden days where the likes of Maldini, Kaka and Owen won because they brought their teams to finals and titles.

Its a joke of an award nowadays cause they prioritise Messi and Ronaldo before looking at other players achievements.

Can we put this to bed already. Haaland could not score in any final man city played this season and couldn’t get his national team to qualify for the World Cup. How can we give him an award for being the best player in the world if he can’t do those simple things. All the other top 5 guys did it why can’t he?

Since about 2010, pretty much every winner has been playing for a Spanish club or was Lionel Messi.

Since 2000, I think there has been about 7 non-Spanish club winners, and two of those were Messi.

In the last 23 years, there have been 5 times that the whole top three were all at Spanish clubs and only three years where none of them were.

There have been only two premier league winners since 2000- Michael Owen in 2001 and Ronaldo in 2008. Only 11 Premier League players have even featured in the top three in that time compared to 38 from La Liga.

Bundesliga isn’t a much poorer league imo. Kane is dominating because Bayern are the superior team and he has a world class squad providing chances. If he signed for city I imagine he would have been “dominating” the league aswell. If he stayed with spurs he would also be scoring for fun as ange ball would also provide him more chances. He’s always been good, spurs just struggled in recent years.think the English premiership is one of the most respected leagues in the world. Buying a top player from the prem costs a fortune. As for them players not winning the ballon d’or I’ve no idea the reasons.
