To your point about Messi winning it over Haaland. I can see the case for Haaland and if he won it then fair play. However…he was missing in the two finals for the treble. Messi won the World Cup, won the most motms for the cup, most goals, most assists. Most momts in europes top 5 that Callander year. The World Cup is the greatest tournament and he was the greatest player in the tournament. That’s why it’s fair to give it to Messi.

To be honest, I think it’s because Messi and Ronaldo have just drastically overshadowed the global footballing stage for so long. It’s also important to note that the quality of a league does not dictate quality of players.
