Kyle Pitts has been a topic of discussion this season mainly for his lack of significant production compared to his draft overall, his rookie season, other TE’s in general, etc. So my question to you guys is what do you think Pitts will end up being on the Falcons: do you think he’s falling short due to Arthur’s Smith awful play calling and the generally terrible offense or could Pitts end up being a bust? Or do you think the truth is somewhere in the middle?

A pass catcher is never worth that high of a pick unless they become a HoFer. Pitts would flourish in the right system but he’s not transcendent. Still it’s hard to completely judge because AS just might be remedial when it comes to scheming and playcalling

I’m not a 100% defender of Smith, he’s done plenty of head scratching things but also plenty of good things. But be real, it was still AS as HC scheming and play calling when KP had over 1k yards in his rookie yr.

The KP problem is he’s a very bad tight end. He ruins play execution when he’s inline blocking or running TE routes designed to attack defenses in a way that makes it easier to execute plays.

Hes a big receiver and best used out wide or in slot like the majority of his rookie yr.

He looks like he’s lost a step since the injury which makes it hard to beat corners now so Smith may have been forced to use him more inline to match up with linebackers instead. Also, Drake takes a lot of the receiver routes Pitts is (or was) good at.

We’re also working with some of the worst QBs in the league.

Randy Moss on the Raiders. Davonte Adams on the…Raiders.

The point is, we don’t know. Are Garrett Wilson and Drake London busts?

What causes me to say this is the fact of Pitts’ rookie season.
Would it shock you if right now KP went to the Cowboys, Texans, Ravens, Dolphins, etc. and immediately started ballin?

Little of both but it’s easier to evaluate failure a coach in his 3rd year than a true evaluation of a 3rd year guy coming off a season ending knee injury

Drafted multiple rounds to early, but also don’t prioritize playmakers at all

Good players are ALWAYS open. He keeps being in contested situations. He keeps almost catching it. A better coach could scheme him open but he’s just a guy. Not a great.

There’s only like 3 TEs who could live up to the number 4 pick, but all in all Pitts got hurt and he lost his explosion. I can’t think of an elite explosive college player that kept their explosion all throughout their career.

I mean taking a TE at 4 is questionable but I still think he’s good. Just a shame about scheme. He’s definitely more of a receiver which is probably more acceptable at 4

He almost broke the record for rookie te receiving… not saying that he was gonna be the best TE of all time, but it’s very clear that the main reason he has not been a pro bowler every year is due to play calling/ qb play

Lmao, oh so now this sub says it was a terrible pick.

I knew this regime was a failure when they took a TE at #4. Pitts was way over-drafted and projected too high by scouts all because of his measurables and wingspan.

His 1000 yard season wasn’t even that impressive considering it was a 17 game season and a big chunk of his yardage came from 3 games — 2 of which were against the worst teams in football.

He seems like a humble, nice dude based on all the interviews I’ve seen, but he is not a revolutionary player and Smith certainly does him no favors.
