Kyle Pitts has been a topic of discussion this season mainly for his lack of significant production compared to his draft overall, his rookie season, other TE’s in general, etc. So my question to you guys is what do you think Pitts will end up being on the Falcons: do you think he’s falling short due to Arthur’s Smith awful play calling and the generally terrible offense or could Pitts end up being a bust? Or do you think the truth is somewhere in the middle?
A pass catcher is never worth that high of a pick unless they become a HoFer. Pitts would flourish in the right system but he’s not transcendent. Still it’s hard to completely judge because AS just might be remedial when it comes to scheming and playcalling
I’m not a 100% defender of Smith, he’s done plenty of head scratching things but also plenty of good things. But be real, it was still AS as HC scheming and play calling when KP had over 1k yards in his rookie yr.
The KP problem is he’s a very bad tight end. He ruins play execution when he’s inline blocking or running TE routes designed to attack defenses in a way that makes it easier to execute plays.
Hes a big receiver and best used out wide or in slot like the majority of his rookie yr.
He looks like he’s lost a step since the injury which makes it hard to beat corners now so Smith may have been forced to use him more inline to match up with linebackers instead. Also, Drake takes a lot of the receiver routes Pitts is (or was) good at.
We’re also working with some of the worst QBs in the league.
