We are languishing in 10th, 8 points behind ‘struggling’ Man United. Defense is leaking goals, attack is largely misfiring and players are losing discipline.

The mentality has also become like that of a mid-table team. Nothing in and around the club screams world class at the moment.

I just don’t find many differences between Chelsea and say, Crystal Palace (apart from the wages and all). As fans, should we also have a mid-table mindset? Satisfied with draws against the big boys and finishing the season with 45-50 points?

Chelsea have spent a lot of money but they have shifted a lot of high earning experienced players also. Then signed younger players on lower wages with long term contracts. Currently they are a mid table team in every sense. Lacking genuine class in certain positions. Then you add the lack of experience on top, Chelsea were always going to be inconsistent.

The positive for me is that they have a good manager. They have cleared out the squad and have a relatively good starting position to build the team back up again. If they keep signing young players I’m not sure we will see great progress. But if they start targeting proven quality players approaching their prime who can help bring the younger players along. We could see a high level team in the future.
