Based on that interview, he thinks this is only because of his own comments and tweets. He doesn’t recognize that it is because he allowed all the shitty people back on the platform. It’s not just his tweets that are an issue for advertisers, it’s the rise in anti-Semitism and racism across the platform as a whole after he brought back everyone that was banned for it previously.

This is exactly what everyone predicted would happen, and either he honestly can’t see it, or he refuses to acknowledge that he could have been wrong about it.

There’s a reason nearly every company handling social media moderates those discussions out, because advertisers don’t want to be associated with shitty opinions.

I think he’s backed himself into a corner, whether he recognizes it or not. Even if he walked back his decision at this point and re-banned all of the problem children, it wouldn’t matter - everyone has already moved on, and all he’d be doing is further killing his userbase. To reference that old set of tweets, Twitter is a Nazi bar, now, and there’s nothing Elon can or will do about that.

This was so hard to watch. He comes off just fully crazy to me.

Is he really delulu enough to think “earth” will not immediately blame him and his terrible leadership for why the company is going under?

It almost sounds like he’s trying to build a case to sue these advertisers—like he’s somehow owed their business, but that’s just as crazy. I just can’t get a hold on wtf is going through his mind here.

I think what most people are forgetting is that this dude’s wealth is $250,000,000,000. If you counted one dollar of his money every second it would take you 8,000 years to count it all.

He could retire tomorrow, sell everything, throw his cash in a term deposit and literally make $60,000 a day in interest or $30M a year.

He doesn’t have to give a shit about any consequence of anything, ever. He can bankrupt 100 businesses, get sued 1000 times, buy a chain of small islands, and still be filthy rich enough to retire on an armada of super yachts with unlimited coke and super models, while still launching rockets into space for shits and gigs until he’s 100.

I don’t want to understand what’s going through his mind. I hope you never do, either. I’m afraid that understanding it would mean we’ve had some kind of mental break.

When Musk was contemplating purchasing Twitter, I said the greatest act of humanitarianism he could do would be to buy it and shut it off.

Seems like he is doing just that… Only very slowly.

I mean, we do get to watch him slowly melt down a portion of his fortune and dignity along the way. I’m just hoping he’ll find some way to flush another 40B down the twatter hole somehow.

    Hey Elon,

    1. Earth doesn’t give a shit if your awful site lives or dies.
    2. It’s you who’s killing it. Take some responsibility.
    3. No need to document ‘everything’. We can see it play out in real time.
    4. All the ‘fact finding’ visits to Israel in the world aren’t going to magically unsay what you said

Elon Musk being an asshole is not “news”. Can we please just start ignoring that piece of shit instead of posting every god damn article about him all over Lemmy?

      It’s almost like there’s a voting system, and you can…like…you know…ignore it.

Always blows my mind how fucking whiny people are about the shit they see on a crowd-sourced platform. Get a hobby, my dude.

I downvoted it and also felt the desire to express my opinion in a comment. What else is the point of a comment section if not to comment on the content of the post?

I find it a bit ironic that you left a comment to “whine” about “whiny” people when you could have followed your own advice by voting on my comment and ignoring it.

I understand that sentiment, but we’re talking about a billionaire who has a hand in running the world, because of his billions. Everything he does is newsworthy. That doesn’t mean I want to read all of it, and I don’t, but we need to be aware.

To boot, this news will hopefully get even more advertisers to realize how off the rails he and his corporations are, and stop even more companies from advertising or otherwise engaging with them.

Yeah that’s totally fair. A billionaire’s actions are generally more newsworthy since they can exhibit much more control of the world around them than most people. I guess I’m just tired of this asshole and want his antics to just stop. But maybe that’s hoping for too much.
