Well I don’t imagine you would flip anything with it, but mix and and turn, including scraping some amount of stuff off the bottom of the pan

I used to have a note in my wallet, but maintaining it was unwieldy and I eventually gave it up.
Probably a bad idea but nowadays I rely on my phones emergency calling. I have my contacts set up and my phone and watch are supposed to call if I get hit by a car. I think there’s a way for calling my emergency contacts even when my phone is locked but I don’t know if anyone knows how to do that.
I’m not sure emergency contacts are actually helpful anymore though. I still have family but they’re scattered. You can call my Mom but it’s a 14 hour drive that she’s too old to make do what’s the point. My ex is local but she’s my ex. My kids should know if I die but I don’t see how they’d help
I think the joke involved Epstein, or maybe “Bubba”
Depends on how you define unreasonable….
We still have some really cheap parking meters. For example to keep people from using the library parking lot all day, there is a meter and 2 hour limit. It’s only a quarter for half an hour or maybe even an hour.
But who carries quarters anymore? There’s an app for that. You can pay by app. Each quarter has a quarter surcharge. I think that’s unreasonable and refuse but a lot of people are ok with it. I say “100% fee is unreasonable” but they say “25¢ fee is cheap and convenient ”.
About 10 years ago my kids went to a summer camp with a pay phone. The thing is they weren’t allowed to use cellphones in any public area plus reception was horrible, so they had to learn

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL: There are 27.4 Empty Homes for Each Homeless Person in the U.SEnglish
11·9 hours agoAre you including landlords? Most people with multiple houses have them to rent out: they’re not empty.
Some percentage of people have a second “empty” house for vacations or as snowbirds, but I imagine the number with more is vanishingly small.
I like the variation we have now, but more so. Let’s increase property taxes substantially, but also increase the residential exemption significantly.
- Low end houses become close to free of taxes
- the average house is taxed the same
- but taxes on high end houses and multiple houses are higher
- so overall property taxes go way up
Assuming he means the same as I do….
Freeze it in a baggie lying flat so it spreads out and gets thin. Then you can store a bunch of them upright like pages in a book.
It’s a great way to efficiently freezer space while having many accessible
my favorites are wooden spoons that are flattened and almost sharpened like a chisel. They are great for scraping the bottom of pots/pans to get up fond.
How do those hold up over time? I was looking at them but wondering if the edge would wear too quickly

World News@lemmy.world•Taps run dry as water crisis forces Iran to consider evacuating its capitalEnglish
11·12 hours agoTechnically not. The article makes the point that it’s more about mismanagement of existing water resources. Particularly for underground water, the affect of climate change is indirect and delayed
And it’s the same with Southern California and Arizona: reality is there’s a finite amount of water available and they’re using it faster than it’s replenished. While climate change affects replenishment and makes it worse, it’s still using water unsustainably

News@lemmy.world•Native American nearly deported after Polk County jail issues ICE detainer by mistake
1·14 hours agoI don’t know if the SovCit BS I see posted is real but I can believe it. It’s not just being obstinate but all sorts of ways they can talk themselves into trouble.
Let’s take the obvious issue of ID. You are required to identify yourself and as a driver you must have proof. But what happens if a SovCit doesn’t recognize that and either refuses or gives a made up ID, registration, license plate?
Or if you don’t recognize the authority of police or of the court, you could easily talk yourself into the maximum penalty for the actual infraction. And if you’re not going to spend money on a lawyer for a court you don’t recognize, you won’t have anyone to tell you to “just shut up”

1·14 hours agoNazi germany very vocally targeted Jewish people. Current IS administration is not. We don’t need to make up targeted racism when general racism explains it and has significant evidence
Thanks. I actually hadn’t found that faq. There’s another one about multiple toxic metals, but might not be for Corelle
My kid just called from his college excited that he had mango lassi French toast. That’s integration

Ah, childhood memories. When we went to this one relatives house, I never understood why my parents never let us play with the rabbits.

Technology@lemmy.world•Americium: How a small element could power the next century of space explorationEnglish
2·2 days agoVoyager I and II are 48 years old running on thermoelectric generators. that’s amazing. They are winding down because the half life of plutonium means there is much less power than when new.
I can see future probes lasting even longer with americium as a fuel source
But introducing moving parts for a sterling engine? In space? And expect it to last like that? Seems unlikely

That article also talks about a lot of the properties being tear downs. It’s easy to say that a homeless person would find just about anything a step up, but realistically it has to be habitable, salable, maintainable. No one would want the liability of a below standard house, nor the PR hit of giving a junk house
