How does us being £20m over the limit, partly due to a stadium build, in 2021/22 have anything to do with you getting relegated in 2022/23?

Also more points than any EFL team has been docked for FFP breaches (as far as I’m aware anyway). Sheffield Wednesday, the case the independent panel cited as the precedent for why we had to have a sporting sanction, only got 6 points by comparison.

I don’t see what that has to do with the fact the punishment being excessive. If you got the death penalty for littering would that be fine cos “millions didn’t break the rules”?

The punishment is completely unprecedented and completely out of proportion to the rules breach. £6m a season over. That’s the equivalent of one star players wages, such as the wages we had to pay a certain Icelandic midfielder despite the fact he couldn’t play. To suggest there was even close to a 10 point sporting advantage is laughable.

No club has had 10 points. The maximum previously has been 9. Sheffield Wednesday, who’s case was cited by the independent panel as the reason for a sporting sanction, were docked 6 points. Birmingham had 9 and chose not to appeal because the deduction made no difference to their season. Derby had 9. None of them had mitigating circumstances like a war or a global pandemic or their star player being arrested on the eve of the season.

If they don’t get a points deduction, and a hefty one at that, I think Everton will have something to say. Just a suspicion.

Regardless as to the reasons “why” FFP was brought in, the reality is now Everton have a 10 point deduction for spending £600m less than other clubs did in the same time. Yes, that’s because of the respective incomes of the clubs, but that doesn’t mean it’s fair.

The Man United’s of the league can spend triple, quadruple, quintuple what Everton spent, and still have room to spare. All that does is increase the already chasmic size gap between the Sky 6 and the rest of the league. In the last 10 seasons, the Sky 6 have taken 53/60 of the top 6 spots. Just 7 times has a club outside that group got into the top 6. That means they get more money, so they have more to spend, so they stay in that top 6, so they get more money, so they get more to spend…

Something needs to be in place to avoid a Leeds situation, but this isn’t it. This isn’t fair.

Everton spent less than Man City, Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and probably some others. It’s caused by both.

It’s not possible for it to have been applied in previous seasons.

Anyone except Burnley, Norwich and Watford is just laughable.

Leicester’s only argument is because “bUt WhY nOt lAsT seaSon”. The accounts were submitted in March 23. As things are we are 1 month after the hearing and expected another 3 months for the appeals. There’s simply no way the case could have reached a final conclusion before the start of the season.

Regardless, the decision was PL, not Everton. No decision by Everton resulted in Leicester being relegated. We were fully compliant for 22/23, and actually substantially under the limit. Any argument of lasting effects from being over the season before is equally laughable considering we were £20m under last season which counteracts the £19m over the season before.

God knows what Leeds argument is. Possibly they can’t count so don’t realise they came 19th and would have been relegated anyway. The same argument for Leicester applies regardless.

Burnley, Watford and Norwich do have a case. Watford finished 16 points below us so nah. Norwich even lower, so nah. Burnley are the ONLY club who even have a slight argument to make, and I struggle to see how they get even a tenth of the way to £100m in damages considering they were immediately promoted, had parachute payments, and were in relegation battles every season and could easily have gone down the next season.

Didn’t you get fined for breaching FFP when you got promoted? Over the threshold by £13m so not too dissimilar. Maybe the other clubs in the championship should have sued you.
