Being angry and toxic is the only way they can succeed in the algorithm, so even well intentioned creators get warped into worse versions of themselves. Debatelords like Vaush and Destiny succeeded because they’re insufferable assholes at their core, so rolling around in the muck was where they were most at home.

I would see him recommended and mentioned in the spaces I used to be in, but I never had any interest in his content. His vibe was so insufferable that he kept me from identifying as libertarian back when I was still uncomfortable with calling myself an anarchist.

The real reason I post so much isn’t for being popular, but for keeping the fediverse active. I see it as my sacred duty to make sure there is a new content every day, so people keep coming back for more and maybe decide to post themselves. When people do post more in certain comms, I actually post less because I don’t need to prop them up. Lately I haven’t been as consistent in certain comms because they’ve seen a spike in new posts, and it’s nice to take a breather every once in a while. Comms are healthier when I’m not necessary for their continued existence.

Basically, you don’t need to be me to contribute to the fediverse. It’s much better if we have a variety of unique voices than if we have 1000 TotallynotJessicas. Just keep being you
