You all missed that more people died of grief than were murdered. That’s the most English thing I’ve ever heard.

“I angrily reject this joke in a politically awakened manner.”
This could be the type specimen of a Lemmy comment

When you put your ego in front of the fourth wall, anything bad that happens can be a lot funnier.

I am happy for you. My experiences differed. I was the only kid at my school who knew you could spend recess in the library, and the clubs were all sports until much later.

How people find each other in school. Normal people probably just have to read magazines or act like each other to fit in. If you’re a misfit you’re never going to find other misfits with that playbook.

Yet also Bush Jr at Trump’s inauguration: “that was some weird shit.”

It’s no better or worse than going with the usual Egon quote about collecting fungus, molds, and spores. That’s how nerds find each other, one of them fires off a signal flare, revealing their location and putting themselves in danger, and other misfits sit next to them at lunch so they can all get hazed together.
I have something significant to share about this topic

Hey, HISTV is showing a ton of promise right out the gates. Targeting 5mbps, I’m cutting anime episodes down from 2gb to 1gb with barely any noticeable change in quality. This is some gourmet shit, brethren.
Ohh, that’s fucking interesting

I don’t know, even a broken Doomsday Clock is right twice a day.

I keep reminding myself: I’m not the empire.
The US did a bad job shaping you into what it needs most, an unthinking self-interested cur. We were supposed to repeat its myths without actually believing in them, apparently. Myths like “give us your huddled masses”, “we the people”, and the “rule of law”.
Pretty words. They should have been real. I find the more I disentangle myself from any national identity, the better I feel.

You should. Even if everything about the elections was exactly as advertised, it’s still an unfair election. Citizens United, lobbyists, gerrymandering, voter suppression tactics, party controlled primaries, and FPTP voting are inherently and deliberately unfair.
Then there are the (currently unproven) allegations that Musk may have done something sneaky with voting machines, not to mention the fact that the Dems ran with an unpopular, no-primary “take it or leave it” non-progressive uninspiring candidate at the last minute, seemingly losing on purpose.
Biden promised to be a single term president, and if he hasn’t lied about that, we wouldn’t be in Iran right now.
We’re still somehow not over the hipstery conceit that anything with mass appeal is inherently flawed.

She would never pay for drinks in my presence, say that much.

I’ve done that, it’s unpleasant but at least only the smell follows you home.

The last few decades in tech have been a generally abysmal downward arc. I used to envy my friends who got into software early, carved out a niche, and made great money. Now they’re depressed and neurotic, all the money in the world and barely ever happy. Sorry if you thought I was making light of your hardship, humour is just how I cope with my own troubles. I’m glad you found a path forward.
The are some severe folks here, yeah
