The Trump administration plans to end a subsidy program that helped hold down premiums for Medicare drug plans, a move that could leave many seniors facing higher rates for their prescription coverage next year.

The move will eliminate a program that is giving insurance companies an estimated $3.6 billion in subsidies this year to blunt increases in premiums for the Medicare prescription plans, known as Part D. The program will end after 2026, according to administration officials.

High drug costs are a perennial issue—especially for seniors on fixed incomes—and healthcare affordability is expected to be a focus in the midterm elections. Roughly 25 million people have Part D plans, and they will learn about their 2027 rates in the fall. Medicare drug coverage premiums are rising because the plans have been hit by growing expenses for GLP-1 medications and other specialty drugs.

Huge tariffs on generic drugs and now huge increases in prescription drug plan premiums.

Trump is a sadistic, malignant narcissist who loves causing misery and death.

This is objectively awful and will hurt and kill so many undeserving people. The most frustrating part of it is that so many of the 60+ demographic voted for this. They wanted to kick “lazy people” off the “welfare state”, and forgot that they need that same welfare state for their medical needs (Medicare) and retirement income (social security).

It’s so sad that so many people have to suffer because such a large portion of the US believes that helping other people is too risky because they might help someone that they don’t think needs it.

My mother back in the 80s proudly explained to us that even though she could get food stamps, she wouldn’t since that would make her a bad person.

It makes me angry with myself that I don’t care anymore.

As you said, they voted for this.

Fuck those people. Maybe if this were still the first term, but its not, they went gleefully running back.

Fuck those people. Boo hoo, your drugs are unaffordable and you will die without them. You wanted this. Everyne fucking told you this and all the other awful shit happening was going to happen. But you picked it anyway.

Eh, I wouldn’t be angry with yourself about it. I feel largely the same most of the time. I think it’s natural to stop having sympathy for people when they have been told and demonstrated the effects of electing the fucking guy over and over. They want the blood of so many different groups of innocent people, why give a shit about what happens to them?

At the same time, I don’t really want anyone to die because they can’t afford healthcare.

My mother has bitched about “Obamacare” for years now. I’m sure this will be his fault too.

I know it seems heaven sent, we ain’t ready to have a black president.

And he was right. The US lost their mind and went with further right. Trump is a symptom not the cause.

Cue a bunch of these fucksticks saying stupid shit like they “didn’t vote for this” or that he’s “not hurting the people he needs to be hurting”.

Imagine, being motivated to vote for a candidate in order to try to hurt others. Not to really make your life any better, no sir.

      100%.

I hope the people who voted for this suffer. Sorry, not sorry, ignorance and obviousness is no longer an excuse in my book.

Remember when he crowed that he was going to bring down Medicare medicine costs by 600%, 700%, 1500%? (Which of course made ZERO sense.)

It’s all turned out to be completed bullshit. Just like everything else!

    Wow, so so shocked! /s

You mean this will start right after Democrats have a chance to take over the House and Senate? I feel like I’ve seen this before.
