It’s literally in the water the chicken bodies float along in a lazy icy river, so it has to be cooked hot enough to kill the pathogens. Air chilled chicken reduces this, but the body juices with the salmonella can still get contaminated onto the meat, but doesn’t add the water weight. I get air chilled sometimes, seems good fully cooked.

Not surprised. Everyone bad mouths “the limits of grown”. But every time I read stuff like this it is what comes to mind. You can only push things so far then they break in unique and unusual ways. You can’t destroy the ecosystem and climate and use industrial farming then expect nothing bad to happen.

Though the issue is a bit more specific than just industrial farming in this case. Meat, dairy, etc. production is inherently really inefficient compared to eating plants because you have to do so much more farming for animal feed where most of the energy is lost

The potus has the power to remove regulation across the board but very little to actually enforce them. If new rules mean 1 in 4 chicken nuggets has salmonella, that’s on Trump. But if Republican states want to stonewall & ignore food safety inspections, that’s not on Biden.
What do you mean? The presidency has enormous power at this point, and when it comes to enforcing regulation the power is actually granted by Congress
All the president has to do is convince these few companies that they’re actually in danger of operations being shut down, even temporarily. They will respond a lawsuit to block this if they think that would be the easier path, but there’s any number of ways to bring them in line. They’d lose an enormous amount of money for every day they’re shut down… If they believe cleaning up their operations is going to be the cheaper path, they’ll make changes unbelievably fast
The presidency also has enormous soft power… If the president calls a company out publicly for food safety, the share price will drop, grocers will switch suppliers if they can, and it’ll affect sales
It all hinges on reputation though… It might take following through on a threat to bring the rest in line, but once they see food safety as the cost of doing business with no cheaper option, they’ll absolutely fall in line
I would argue that we didn’t elect the president to just set regulations, we elect the president to solve problems. Creating a regulation and not enforcing it properly doesn’t solve any problems.
