How does this protect against a drone?
Submarines are giant pressure vessels made to withstand a lot of force from water. That likely makes them resistant to the size of munitions a drone could carry when detonated externally. However, it being a pressure vessel means that any munitions detonated inside could be very deadly for the crew. Explosives can kill primarily by propelling shrapnel outward or by causing a pressure wave intense enough to shred sensitive tissues like lungs. An enclosed space restricts how a pressure wave can expand and increases the distance at which a modest explosion can kill. So, those in the submarine would want to take care to make sure a drone can’t get inside the submarine before detonating.
I’m not a subject matter expert, and this is largely speculation. I did once watch a special about a group developing a powder dispersing bomb that would send a lethal pressure wave deep into cave/tunnel systems.
Perhaps it’s to stop an aerial drone from dropping munitions down an open hatch, the way they’ve been dropping them on tanks and IFVs, rather than a drone just smashing into the conning tower…maybe someone else has a better explanation
I assume whatever they drop down a hatch will also fit between those thin metal bars.
I think there’s netting in between
They probably have mesh over them that was lost in compression of that image.
They need to make contact to really do damage, this detonates them before they can get close to anything important. I think that’s the idea.
Edit: the other person seems more correct with the whole dropping things down the hatch idea, for my idea to work they’d have to cover everything
Is that guy in the foreground a wojak meme
How do you not know the antichrist himself - who briefly carried our hope of Putin’s regime collapsing into civil war?
That is the torturer and killer of children and other innocents, the nazi, fascist, genocider, the hot dog salesman and Putin’s personal chef who became the owner and leader of the mercenary company Wagner. He laid siege to bakhmut for a year and burned through countless of his mercenaries and other convict battalions as cannon fodder. He then complained to the ministry of defence about getting inferior treatment and deliveries then other battalions, he started to march on Moscow, throwing all of Russia into panic and despair, stopped his march, asked for forgiveness, was exiled to Belarus and later invited back to Moscow and killed in a helicopter explosion.
Now I kinda forgot his name. Which is not worth remembering anyway. Ok, I looked it up, it’s yevgeny prigozhin.
Man, what a fucking day that was. Watching a pmc marching on Moscow unopposed
It was so fucking weird. I mean yeah, it was nice to see someone marching straight to Moscow basically unopposed. With whatever forces Putin had left in the area destroying the roads and digging trenches in full panic mode. All the while I was thinking “Of all the Russians, Pringles is probably the last person that should sit in the Kremlin?”
The only good thing that came out of all this shit was the cycling Russian who blasted “Because I got high” by Afroman while the rest of the country tried to cope with the situation.
Edit: Found him.
Those two days were the absolute summit of NCD memeage
I like how everyone nowdays uses “cope cages” and they are still called that.
The meme term has influenced the fabric of reality yet again
I think they learned this trick from Californians trying to protect their catalytic converter.

Is it just me or do those submarines look like empire ships from star wars
It should be the opposite: The design of the delta class submarines is older than Star Wars and it would make sense that George Lucas took some design inspiration from soviet russia. He did take a lot of inspiration from Nazi Germany and it would make sense that he also did take a look at the USSR as America’s cold war enemy.
