I wonder if Lemm.ee admins can somehow lock all communities right before going offline so that users aren’t mislead and try to make posts that will never federate.

Ah. I can’t blame them. A normal website is a lot to maintain. I can’t even imagine what toll a social media site would take on mental health. Kiddos to them for maintaining it as long as they did!
How about feddit.org? It’s also European and already gets a lot of traffic
I think it’s a bit of a controversial instance because they apply german cesnorship laws notably to do with israel palestine.
I know this won’t affect this specific community, but people might not be too keep on the idea of feddit.org in general for that reason.
(I don’t blame feddit.org admins, I’m not the one at legal risk)
I fully understand and I’m not happy about it either. I’d love to hear it if there is a better option in the EU, but it seems like we’ll have to rely on the Germans (for European autonomy and Lemmy).
FWIW, I think the feddit.org admins are handling the situation very well.

What’s everyone’s feelings on Lemmy.world? I know there’s been some huff about them in the past, but I’m interested in stability and ease for the most users.

My information is a little outdated; do you know why some people seem to have a strong aversion to migrating to Lemmy.world?
The general opinion is that having too much people on the same instance is dangerous from a centralization perspective.
We see it now with the impact of Lemm.ee shutting down, and it is 3 times smaller than Lemmy.world (https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/list)
Some LW mods have a tendency to power trip, even increased by the concentration of communities on their instance

Thanks for such a clear answer! I’m definitely not interested in ever getting involved in Lemmy Drama, so it does seems like LW might not be the way to go. I’ll do a little digging; Lemmy.zip seems good, but feel free to throw any other suggestions my way!
