I tried watching ‘For All Mankind’ with my partner but we gave up after a couple of episodes. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going in, but all the relationship and 1960s social drama stuff is quite dull and it feels like a show that will take an absolute eternity to “get good”, if it actually does. With four seasons already out, we decided to cut our losses before we waste more time with it.

I have also been watching a low budget Canadian mystery series called ‘Something Undone’, which is about a true crime podcast duo investigating a cold case in a small town. I’m only a few episodes in, but I really like the cinematography and small town feel of the show. There’s not a lot of dialogue, and quite a bit is communicated visually instead. It reminds me of the many small town mystery audiodrama podcasts out there with writing that is as clichéd as the rest of them yet somehow still entertaining. It has that “cosy watch in bed” kind of vibe and the episodes aren’t too long either. It’s also fun because it has quite a few actors I’ve seen in other Canadian productions, such as ‘The Expanse’ and ‘Kim’s Convenience’, but who never had this much screen time in those shows. One of the leads, Michael Musi, played a very silly role in the latter of those shows so it’s interesting to see him play a much more serious role here.

For All Mankind I liked the first season, but no, it doesn’t get better.

Each season does a different decade, so the leads age up.

It overplays the science fiction card. For example, in the last season they are on Mars. One of the workers is smuggling minerals to Earth for jewelry. None of the CIA/KGB people notices that Martian jewely is being advertised in in the newspapers.

It’s hilarious how the leads age and age and just keep going. I have no idea how these characters are going to make it to season four unless they are cryogenically frozen.

I agree with you on For All Mankind. I got pretty deep into S1 and I was forcing myself to pay attention. It hits the mark for all the things I tyically love:

      • NASA
      • SCFI
      • Alternate Reality
      • Joel Kinnaman

I just couldn’t get into it.
