@glyph@mastodon.social: okay I have successfully avoided responding to any of these directly but after having seen like the TENTH post today saying something like “we don’t need to convince you to like AI, the revolution is coming whether you like it or not” I just have to reply, generally, to this whole sentiment: OKAY THEN. IF WE ARE GETTING LEFT BEHIND THEN LEAVE US BEHIND, ALREADY

I’ve been seeing ads like “don’t believe the propaganda about data centers. They add important jobs, bring tax revenue, they don’t pollute as much as people say and they’re actually pretty quiet” and I’m like, oh cool, so you can just straight up fucking lie in political ads now. Real cool world we have here.

so you can just straight up fucking lie in political ads now

Now, I could be wrong, but uh… hasn’t that always been the case?

When consumers see or hear an advertisement, whether it’s on the Internet, radio or television, or anywhere else, federal law says that ad must be truthful, not misleading, and, when appropriate, backed by scientific evidence. The FTC enforces these truth-in-advertising laws, and it applies the same standards no matter where an ad appears – in newspapers and magazines, online, in the mail, or on billboards or buses.

I’m pretty sure the fairness doctrine was for giving equal time on tv or radio. We’re more talking about lies told in paid advertisements.

I want to be fucking left behind. My fucking android phone is forcing me to download an AI app. I used to be able to schedule my calendar appointments via my voice but not anymore. I guess it was always AI, but don’t force me to download an additional app and agree to your terms and conditions. Fuck android

I think a better response is “we don’t need to convince you stop liking oligarch boots, the revolution is coming whether you like it or not”

      Pretty shit, as usual.

So what? You think idiots who type prompts into an AI have secure jobs now?

I have 4 friends in the tech industry that got laid off 1-2 years ago. 3 used AI to trawl job boards and submit tailored resumes and applications. 1 did not. Guess which ones have jobs and which one is still looking?

Great so people are supposed to use ai to do job boards while HR uses ai to bin applications. What an amazing system. Fuck I love the future

Not saying it’s good. But it does appear necessary. This is what people mean by learn to use AI or be left behind. No one is saying you should like it, or that it’s good for society (it’s not), but it is the current state of the world. You can stomp your feet and throw a temper tantrum, or you can try to ride the wave of shit.

No shit-surfing for me. I think I’ll just continue fueling the ai backlash that’s happening across the country. Turns out some cities can actually halt datacenter construction and that’s kind of a bigger priority for me than job switching at the moment
