Hey, you don’t throw a 250th anniversary party every year. You have to make sure it’s a BIG one.
If only there was an appropriately named “Big Party” happening somewhere important to the country sometime this year…
…until the bitter end.
Let’s not give everyone a pass by saying he’s a dictator. Trump is backed by scores of powerful Republicans who could’ve stopped this, and by tens of millions of MAGA cultists who are cheering everything he does.
But that’s true of virtually every dictator. You don’t get to be a dictator without a plethora of yes-men who are willing to implement the whims of the dictator without question. Dictators need True Believers to implement their plans, and oppress any opposition. That’s a basic facet of any dictatorship.
And don’t forget about the corrupt military that does what dear leader says, instead of what the laws and oaths demand.
He’s backed by billionaires and corporations
Okay.
So these protests, obviously, didn’t do anything, as expected.
Can you start doing general, country-wide strikes to hit the Cheeto where it hurts? No violence needed, and let’s hope that stays that way, but you gotta do more than just hold up a disagreement sign at this point.
Don’t think it matters, unless the stock market took a tumble.
The stock market is largely a fiction now.
Layoffs at 2008/09 levels yet the economy keeps going higher cuz of “AI”. It’s all bullshit these days
Undeniably so, of course, that doesn’t mean it can’t shit itself.
If the vast majority of shareholders withdraw from OpenAI, Oracle, or Nvidia, the whole thing will likely plummet. I wonder if the 1% can hold up the full amount of all three without individual investors and retirement fund sheets.
Imagine if they could keep it running by each one of them owning 1/3 of the others outright.
We are nowhere near organized enough for that.
Then start organising. Unions didn’t fall from the heaven.
I’m a member of DSA and have done events with General Strike US. I’ve helped support striking workers and teachers with food and supplies, and walking the picket. I’m doing my part.
I’m also being realistic. Who’s going to pay people’s rent when strikes last 6 months or more?
Unions don’t form because there are rights to be wronged. Unions form because there’s an opportunity to make money. They’re a profitable service sought by workers due to mistreatment by employers. A small number of dedicated individuals can organize a few thousand people, secure more funding, and collect dues to sustain the effort.
90% of the “right” and 60% of the “left” won’t act until their own living situation is directly in jeopardy.
We’re not disorganized because we’re lazy (mostly); we’re in denial. Nothing like this has happened in our lifetimes, and we still hold out hope that someone will come around and sort it out. That’s how we were raised, it’s how our lives have happened up to this point, and we’re likely to head off to idiocracy before we spend an ounce of time being proactive.
Americans(we) are not going to do a general strike.
Even if we were organized enough to think about doing that, there’s far too many people who think they have too much to lose still, specifically their children.
Nobody is ready to die and the elites know it.
In the end, the US empire listed about 250 years. Maybe they stumble along shitting themselves for another 50 years, but this is likely the beginning of the end considering they’ve destroyed any trust with other powers for generations, and done so right at the time when they needed this ethical narrative to constrain China’s dominance. Like many other empires they became arrogant and shit all over everyone else, and eventually the knives come out.
250, maybe 300 years. Pretty mid, to be honest. Just average. Not really the powerful and unique exemplar they envisioned, just a standard run of the mill power that let the success get to their heads.
If only he had an arch he could “proudly” walk under right now /s
You can always have one. You just need to kidnap a head of the state in which there is one. You already did once, it can’t be that hard to do it a second time.
Maduro was the second time. The first time was Noriega with Bush 1.
My bad, I meant this year.
Huh?
Don’t forget Dubya taking out Saddam in Iraq.
First time outside of North America…
(And this is just one example.)
becoming a rouge state
It’s been a rogue state for 250 years
Britain is that you?
Maybe more applicable (and also a very long article) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_involvement_in_regime_change
But it happened to Natives and Latin America so it doesn’t really count
If Americans can’t organise a general strike when their president goes rogue and kidnaps another president illegally, when are they going to? I’m done holding out expecting Americans to deal with their bullshit. Were all going to need to be the ones
I don’t think the USA has ever done a general strike. We can barely manage a boycott. I don’t think there is anyone who could possibly lead it. No one here has that kind of respect and charisma. Maybe Obama could? But that’s not our tradition to have former Presidents continue to be political leaders — just fund raisers.
Plus we have no protection from retaliation. General strike is just asking everyone to no show. That’s a write up or a firing. Goodbye health insurance. Not even any unemployment because that would be getting fired for cause.
Which is a lot of defeatism, I know, but how the fuck do you do it??? .5% participation isn’t going to get us anywhere.
That aside, yeah. Don’t expect us to do any better than any other historical democracy that voted in an autocrat. Unless someone is going to do us like we did Venezuela, or somehow we manage to have actual, fair elections this year, we’re the bad guys going forward. And even then we’ll just clap ourselves on the back and sing how awesome our country and forefathers are because we survived someone like Trump and just keep on keeping on like we didn’t narrowly avert the end of the nation.
And I guarantee we’ll vote in another Republican administration within the next 15 years. We’re all (the world) pretty fucked. Let’s not do global superpowers any more.
Glad you’re at least being honest about this shit. Too many times ppl call for a general strike without understanding what that actually means for the average person and their family.
They won’t in the end. As long as it’s their neighbor getting kidnapped and not them or their family, they are content to complain on social media because it requires minimal effort. The rest of the free world need to sanction the Trump regime and start freezing assets ASAP, otherwise we will all be fighting a war against the fascist states of America.
They think it’s worth accepting fascism right now because it doesn’t hurt them and maybe there’s some risk protesting. They don’t think about a year down the road or 5 or 10 when they start dragging other minorities into concentration camps. It’s a blindness to truly see where this is going and deciding to take the easy path right now rather than do the right thing.
Most of us don’t have the support for that. Our bills don’t stop when we’re on strike. Maybe those in unions can do something but the rest of us would be fucked by doing that. I’m certainly not going to ruin my life on the off chance it actual gets that moron to change his ways.
Do you think that freedom fighters throughout history haven’t had everything on the line? The American revolutionaries all had padded bank accounts and their bills paid off?
You don’t stop protesting because your lives are shit. You do it because of it.
The leaders of the American revolution were some of the wealthiest, most powerful, most influential people in the colonies.
It’s like Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos deciding that Trump’s tariffs are costing them too much money so they commit to organizing and overthrowing him, not a bunch of farmers and laborers managing to organize a rebellion
Even farmers own their homes and have means of producing food. We talk about peasant riots. Consider that those peasants had the means of growing their own food (even if they legally couldn’t keep it). The colonists could revolt in the “British Colonies” because their families would keep the farm running while they were out training. Who is going to keep our bills paid while we’re working with the SRA?
USAmericans are in a near-unbreakable bind because most of us don’t have access to resources without the same society that is actively oppressing us. How many of us even own a plot of land to live on, let alone the means to provide food for ourselves? Sure, neighbors can come together and all grow food in our backyards… but that also means more mouths to feed.
Not the same situation at all. The American revolutionaries had the continental congress organizing and funding the war effort. Also it was a lot easier to get back on your feet from being financially destitute back then than it is today where it costs much more to simply exist due to landlords, corporations, and the government all constantly bleeding us for every dollar we make.
The point stands. There have been countless uprisings, revolutions, strikes, etc where the people didn’t have a nice bank account.
it costs much more to simply exist due to landlords, corporations, and the government all constantly bleeding us for every dollar we make.
Are you saying you have it worse that medieval peasants? Because they literally owned nothing and rose up time and time again against their lords. People a lot weaker than you consider yourself have changed the world.
Because they literally owned nothing
So they had nothing to lose. No debts to fall behind on, no credit scores to ruin, no government agencies tracking them everywhere they went, no criminal records. If their revolt didn’t work out, as long as they could provide labor they could move around and find a place where they were needed. Their quality of life would be relatively unchanged. For us if we take action and fail we will be dramatically worse off. We need to be organized and have a means to protect each other when things get bad before we can do much. Hopping on facebook and telling everyone not to go to work next week isn’t going to cut it.
Sure, I could have helped prevent the New Holocaust, but I had to think about my credit score you see.
(History books 2130)
I guess that’s why you’re out there tossing molotovs. The history books certainly should highlight just how oppressive life in America is in this time.
Yeah, I do, as well as all the other things I listed that you chose to ignore. I’m not going to completely ruin my own life for a minute chance it causes the Trump administration to change course.
What about every other fucking resistance in history
This is the same tired argument all the boomers use to justify pulling up the ladder behind them on everything from housing to school. Shit in the 60s were far from great, but compare pictures of police then to now, sprinkle in a dash of internet and massive surveillance, and rip out any safety net that could have existed to help you weather the strike. Tell me THEN how you’d be out there risking it all on the chance you might have support. Hell, just thinking back to that one pic of Bernie Sanders being arrested for protesting in the 60s: cops wore uniforms with a helmet and the worst they had were dogs and fire hoses.
tRump knows he can’t cancel the elections because of a war. We’ve had elections during war times. What they are banking on is Martial Law for civil unrest caused by their actions. It’s why the keep ratcheting up the pressure. A general strike would be great, but a handful trying, without support, is gonna be a huge waste of those people’s time and a death sentence to their potential future.
Propaganda is what they do. This is what the media has shown you all; that Americans are doing nothing and have rolled over for this regime. You won’t see political actions by the masses the same way as the Civil Rights Movement. The state has spent the last 60-80 years dismantling the mechanisms to allow it. Those that can are doing whatever they can to fight a system they are chained to. I don’t blame those who can’t sacrifice it all at this point. Those of us that can afford it, are donating to food banks and community support groups. My family spent more on donations last year than gifts, for instance.
You want proof things are hard for citizens here? Wait till the holiday retail numbers come out. Either the upper-middle class (now just middle-class) saved them from recession indicators or the real economic hardships are about to rear their ugly heads!
My point is, don’t believe what you see in media. Believe what you see at protests, retail spending numbers, and first-hand reports from people here. The kegs are primed. This shit is gonna pop off if/when tRump and the Republicans try to alter the election results. They are incompetent as fuck and do stupid shit all the time. They will fuck up and be obvious in their attempts.
Yeah, but that generation was made different.
Who knew in 2026 it would be the beginning of 1939, except this time USA are the bad guys?
We’re ahead of schedule compared to nazi Germany. Yay us.
The canary in the coal mine should have been when they explicitly started targeting trans people but people here don’t care. They think trans people must have deserved it and nothing bad will happen to the people they think actually matter. Why would this situation be an exception?
I will never get over what this country did in November 2024. We had Project 2025. (Queer Furry) Hackers risked their lives to leak it. IIRC the lead hacker was raided and imprisoned once Trump got in power, and I don’t know if they ever got out.
Because Gaza, apparently.
Oh, and the two parties are equivalent.
And vegemite is delicious!
We won’t.

All while being lead by a convicted felon and pedophile.
Don’t forget draft dodger and possible accessory to a baby’s murder.
I really hope he overextends the military, and a draft is required. That might be the only thing that will piss off people enough to get them away from the TV and do something.
I’d doubt it but I admire your optimism
Not new actions America has always been a “rouge state” if that has any meaning.
Not just rouge, also blanc et bleu
Becoming?
Not a pariah only because world is Dependant on US. But becoming one.
You have that in reverse. The USA only is the richest country in the world by exploitation of most of the world. A necro-parasite, feeding on the corpses of dozens of “third world” countries.
The tankies like the one below got the vote bots out in full force, lately.
I’m Not a tankie. I’m anti imperialism/anti-autoritarism no matter the colors.
Fuck Maduro. And Trump. And Xi. And Putin. And Erdogan. And Netanyahu. And bin Salman. And Bolsonaro…the fucking list is getting larger and larger…and scarier. I’m scared. I’m scared seeing humanity go down the drain, to suffocate in oil and plastic and war and famine and disease… to ear everyday everyone saying how shit things are going but everyone calls me the “bot”, the angry one the mad one…
Why?
I need you PEOPLE to leave behind the tribalism and hate and greed and WAKE THE FUCK UP.
PLEASE WAKE THE FUCK UP
It’s difficult for me to see you take any legitimate stance against American Democracy and also against Trump because Trump opposes the American Democracy.
I see the USA as the cold, brutal, stone walls of a dam which holds back autocracies Russia and China. I want Trump removed, I want the USA’s democracy to fix itself and improve as they always have, and I want their diplomatic influence and NATO to spread until all war is forever behind us as a species.
