People have dug their heals into what side of the fence their on for this arguement and almost nothing will get them to change their stance.

What people fail to remember is some of the fullbacks they say are great defenders were actually poor defenders in their early 20s. Kyle Walker didn’t start getting praised for his defending till his late 20s.

Supporting evidence? You can see the PGMOL officials in Saudi or in the UAE reffing games. There’s evidence of that. While the UAE own City there shouldn’t any PGMOL refs reffing games there. It’s not about concrete evidence it’s about removing any level of doubt that something fishy can be going on

Thought what you’re saying was common knowledge. I understand that some may not have watched the PL and its coverage when he was managing, but you look at any interview from ex-United players and they all say he was controlling and over bearing. Think it’s fair for the fans and clubs to worry about these refs going to these countries that own clubs in England and reffing games. You’re telling me we shouldn’t at all be worried with refs reffing games in the UAE when the UAE owns City and has 115 charges hanging over them for financial cheating, that’s not at all concerning to anyone? I personally don’t think their bribing officials like some people think, but the issue is that it’s creating a narrative that’s being pushed.

Think many would agree the standard of reffing wasn’t great to begin with, but they bring in var to clean up the “clear and obvious” errors but somehow make it worse. At this point I’ve started to consider maybe it’s best to just get rid of var and going back to before. I can live with the ref on the field being wrong, my issue is when it goes to var and there’s half a dozen people in an office miles and miles away from the game and they have all the views and tech needed but still can’t get the call right.

Can’t even explain how much I disagree with this. You show freeze frame of impacts or slowing down challenges, it makes everything look 10x worse than it does in real speed.

There’s numerous times this season where the ref goes to the monitor and a still image shows them the challenge giving them a biased opinion before showing them anything else. A tackle will always look way worse when you slow it down or show a still image. Look at big hits in the NFL or NHL, in realtime they look bad but when you slow it down and see the impact it typically always looks way worse then real speed.

By using various angles in real speed you can see everything you need. You see the impact from various angles to assess how dangerous the play really was.

I mean it seems more accurate then them being consistently incompetent like they’ve shown for seasons now and never improving anything.

Articles and reports like this doesn’t help either, you have to consult another company to know that they need clarity, accuracy and not to talk about stuff that doesn’t relate to the issue at hand? Surely that should be the basics and done when they brought VAR in and not years down the line.

Apart from offsides, since there’s no input from the on-field ref for deciding that.

The only thing VAR officials should say to the on-field ref is “go to the monitor to review” and then play the offence at full speed from various angles. Cut the slowing down and still frame images when the refs at the monitor. Give the ref the views they need to determine their own call.

Can’t see them being stripped of anything. Probably just a fine (woah a fine to billionaires and their billion dollar entity) and maybe a point deduction whenever they get around to resolving this.

Fines in sports on this level are just stupid imo. Do they really think the owners of City, who are the second richest in world football care about paying a 30 million pound fine (which was their UEFA punishment)? They probably spend that in a day, completely useless to them.

IMO the FA and PL need to rewrite the FFP/sustainability rules. Something needs to be done to ensure “smaller” clubs can spend to try and reach the UCL places but also ensure that people aren’t cheating like City and Chelsea are accused of. Maybe owners need to put up x amount into some account, so that if they decide to fuck off the club doesn’t get ruined by them.

I don’t think you full understand the City case. They’ve been charged by the PL and it’s been sent to a independent commission to come up with the punishment as per the PL rules. That’s the stage we are in now, there’s an independent commission reviewing the evidence from both sides to ultimately come up with the punishment. The league won’t strip them of the titles, the independent commission will strip them if they see fit to do so.

Another note these charges only refer to seasons between 2009-10 and 2017-18, there could be another investigation for 2018-19 till now but that’s just jurno and social media talk right now.

While I agree it’ll be a PR nightmare for the league, to many people it’s the only way to hold up the ethical standard of the league. The league and commission almost certainly has upmost pressure from league owners (most notably probably LFC owners) and then fans around the world.

Personally don’t see a huge punishment for City like stripped titles. The high priced City lawyers will drag this out for a long time and negotiate the penalty down. No matter what the PL needs to rewrite FFP/sustainability rules, to make it easier for them to investigate but also ensure punishment is taken quicker, and also make it easier for “smaller” clubs to challenge the bigger ones if owners put up some collateral stake.

Not trying to throw shade at Arsenal but are we suprised? Supposedly the whole Ozil stuff was because of his stance with what the Chinese are doing to the Uighur Muslims. Not sure if this was ever confirmed but it still is discussed somewhat from time to time.

Let’s be honest no club would really cancel a large sponsorship deal. They only get involved in political issues when it suits the clubs and their image. This isn’t direct at Arsenal before fans get on my back, talking about ALL clubs
