  • Under status quo conditions yes, but we have passed beyond the point where the status quo pattern matching descriptions we have had about climatic swings are becoming less and less relevant as the system changes.

It will probably be a relatively calm hurricane season, but we really don’t know anymore just look at sea surface temperatures, we aren’t in the same regime anymore, the oceans are fundamentally changed at a general level in terms of heat exchange and weather interaction.

One of the least appreciated parts about Climate Change is how the increase in chaos makes some of our prior pattern matching/predictive capacity obsolete and irrelevant because the systems physically become more chaotic and swingey.

  • I think the part that makes me feel so disconnected from society is even if there was a huge awakening of awareness about the hollowness we feel, it already has persisted most of my life as a millenial and that distance, dissonance, unreality, and disposition doesn’t go away easily even if the underlying problem that caused it one day does.

Time lost is time lost, life lost is life lost and the manifestation of that extraction through the mechanisms of modern life is a loss of detail, a loss of vibrance, a loss of dreams…

The saddest part for me is I don’t think I will ever have the realistic option to have kids, by the time I stabilize my life and get the necessary foundations I will most certainly be too old to have kids. I don’t know if I want kids, I don’t think I do, but I don’t even feel like I even had the choice, even if I had made all the best choices possible with the options I had.

Surely the reason we are all depressed is just social media and digital screens though!

  • Your understanding of what is driving Climate Change has been successfully focused entirely on a complex of guilt and shame within you about your own carbon footprint.

This is leading you to suggest that installing a lifesaving tool that takes up some energy is not worth the thousands and thousands of lives it saves during heatwaves.

Please stop denying your own humanity and the humanity of others and focus on fighting the actual drivers of Climate Change before you end up accidentally killing yourself just because you couldn’t live in a way that perfectly minimized your impact.

This is NOT a slippery slope we all should be obsessed with, it is not that slippery and there are far scarier slippery slopes all around us that should be getting our attention.

Ultimately being against AC is just another form of ecofascism hiding in the language of personal responsibility to obscure the responsibilities of capital, industry and society.

  • This is nonsense, your life is worth the carbon footprint of AC.

Install Air Conditioning NOW if you are even remotely at health risk, you don’t do anything for the world suffering in pain during a heatwave which if it doesn’t kill you may do permanent damage to your body.

You don’t have to use the AC but you DO need it, heatwaves without AC are terrifying please give yourself permission to treat your body kindly.

You aren’t the reason Climate Change is happening, put that burden down and keep only the self awareness and introspection part of that thought complex.

  • Well that and the associated failure of tech culture in Silicon Valley and elsewhere to understand the important of organizing in the workplace not only to improve the quality of working conditions so you can truly show up and feel supported to do good work you are proud of… but also to ensure that the industry at a basic level remains functional and ethical.

If you look at the primary motivating reasons of a lot of industries striking in the US, it often has to do with a universal anger and grief that basic aspects of their work are being undermined by carelessness, nursing is a good example of that.

Tech workers had a moment of incredible cultural and material power there, and they failed to translate that into a set of truly professional standards and become something like engineering, plumbing or land surveying, something with a license, a set of high standards that are grounded in a philosophy of doing good honest work… like how doctors have.

This invited in the subsequent dehumanization of tech workers in the last 20 years and the rise of AI further rationalizing more dehumanization and devaluing of tech work.

  • I think it would be funnier if they were drones carrying drugs, but it was another branch of the US Department Of Defense running drugs being caught by a different branch of the US Department Of Defense who really wanted to try out their new toy and didn’t get the memo about turning a blind eye there.

I feel bad for this new generation of border guards and law enforcement though, if you blow up the drug drone in the air, a lot of the drugs probably won’t survive the crash and thus being the actual person to arrive at the cache of drugs first as the “good guys” isn’t as fun or profitable anymore.
