One person stopping a vehicle, the other judging the people in the vehicle like a disappointed parent.

“You aren’t being the neighbor that Fred Rogers knew you could be!”

I’m always amazed at how powerful that single sentence is to almost all Americans.

Unfortunately, many conservatives hated Mr. Rogers because he told children that they have intrinsic value as people.

The second image is a bit on the nose IMO. The comparison was clear enough from the original. And yeah maybe some people need it pointed out to them, but I suspect those people are also the ones who will reject the idea regardless.

There are probably some out there, especially younger people or those who have only recently started educating themselves, who simply haven’t seen the second image before.

Maybe, but I’d say if they don’t know Tank Man, seeing it in this context without further explanation is still unhelpful. Because they’re likely to think it’s a photo taken in America today.

I’m just thinking about the Venn diagram of people who know who George Takei is, are of the right kind of mind that they would actually see the link between the two images, but have not seen the second image.

You dont need to make a strawman of what mls believe, you can just quote the wikipedia and ignore the claims by countries that have a reason to fabricate hostile evidence. If you want to go further, look at testimonies by witnesses that corroborate the side opposed to where they currently live.

Its also important to try to understand why the chinese feel the issue is contentious and the various perspectives, as opposed to letting the other side tell you how the chinese feel and why.

IIRC, The chinese government say 200 something died, and presumably they have more information than a wapo reporter, since they can ask the hospitals and witnesses to verify the police and military reports.

Some minister, 15 days after the events, according to a paywalled book in 1998, according to wikipedia.

The death toll was certainly greater than zero, theres pictures of dead soldiers and like 2 dozen protestors in the streets surrounding the square.

Ive read parts of the wikipedia page on it and it says the chinese gov states there were around 20 soldiers killed, but it doesnt mention civilians killed, plus a bunch of injured people. That minister really says something about 200 dead?

I believe those were from the fighting happening elsewhere since there was an active rebellion going on with soldiers being lynched etc. What the wapo reporter is speaking against is this idea in the western mind of peaceful protesters on tiananmen square being mowed down by gunfire.

Ok yeah no nobody who has done as minimal investigation as “looking at the square in the background of the tankman video” and cares about the incident beyond its utility as hostile evidence believes that, I assumed we were talking about the entire incident.

LOL, nice try with the blatant dishonest spin. Too bad your attempt to falsely paint ICE as the ‘good guys’ falls flat if you’ve got two brain cells to rub together and realize that they were there to kidnap the workers, not arrest the owners.

I dunno, last I heard about child labour from the US was all those factories being busted employing children. But I might get it confused with the children being shot in school, or the children with cancer being sent to Auschwitz. Its’ really hard to tell, what I do know is that the Republicans care about children and this is reflected in their actions.

As for shooting ICE, that’s a civic duty.
